Salem offers a
unique environment in which to celebrate both holidays that are
part of the Christian tradition and personal milestones.
The Christmas season is a joyful time at Salem. We begin our
preparations in Advent, with special worship services, music
and a Children's Pageant. The first Sunday of Advent is the time
for our Advent Workshop, a family event in which cookies are
decorated, crafts are made and laughter is shared.
During Holy Week, we begin our celebration with a
Palm Sunday service that includes a procession of our children
and palm branches for each worshipper. On Thursday of Holy Week
(Maundy Thursday) we hold a service of Tenebrae that includes
readings of the scriptures which tell the story of Jesus' betrayal,
crucifixion and death. On Good Friday morning, we have a simple
quiet service which reflects on the meaning of Jesus' sacrifice.
Our Easter Celebration includes music by the Chancel Choir and
the Resurrection Band and a joyful celebration of Holy Communion.
Weddings and funerals
are also offered at Salem.

To the left and right are those who participated in
a fund raising dinner. Many smiles and fun fellowship ensued
while we filled ourselves with all the great home-made treats.

Some of our Second Time
Arounders are seen here at a lunch outing at a local restaurant.
Pictured here is one of our youngest
enjoying cake at a workshop/mini-retreat that we enjoyed in a
local park cabin. |
